These tombs were carved into the natural granite stone headland more than a thousand years ago. Bodies would have been laid to rest at this site. It’s not clear whether the graves would have been covered, but there are no cap stones. There’s a ruined chapel, St Patrick’s, a couple of yards away from the tombs, and there are two more carved tombs on the site in a less prominent position. This is an ancient burial site, with remains found in dozens of locations. These six graves were for people of special importance. The grave to the left has not been completed, and the second from the left is smaller than the other four, suggesting it was built for a child. The graves each have an indentation above the head, where a headstone or possibly a cross would have been planted. The patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick, is supposed to have some connection, and the headland looks out towards Ireland, but historians are divided on whether he actually ever attended the site. The site is a scheduled ancient monument, and is believed to have first been inhabited by humans 12,000 years ago.
i really like looking at google image searches for “firemen rescuing cats” or something because you get super cute pictures like
